Serge Murphy appointed Guest Curator for the 30th edition of the International Symposium of Contemporary art of Baie-Saint-Paul
Jacques Saint-Gelais Tremblay, executive director of the Musée d’art contemporain of Baie-Saint-Paul, is pleased to announce the appointment of Serge Murphy as guest curator for the 30th edition of the International Symposium of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul. “Mr. Murphy is a highly regarded artistic personality. His experience, talent and competence will be invaluable to ensure that the 30th edition will be a complete success,” said Mr. Saint-Gelais Tremblay, during the press conference held at the closing ceremony of the 29th Symposium.
Serge Murphy lives and works in Montréal. He creates sculptures that inhabit spaces, and drawings and narrative videos which have been presented in Québec, Canada as well as other countries. In 2007, he received the Ozias-Leduc award of the Fondation Émile-Nelligan for his visual art works. On numerous occasions, over the past 30 years, he has filled the roles of judge and of curator. He is the author of a collection of poems entitled La vie quotidienne published by Les Éditions de l’Hexagone in 2010. La forme des jours, Mr. Murphy’s latest exhibition opened during the current summer at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and will extend into the fall of 2011.
Mr. Saint-Gelais Tremblay took advantage of the opportunity to thank Stefan St-Laurent, guest commissioner of the 29th edition, who oversaw two years of exceptional quality for the Symposium.
