OPEN WORKSHOPS
THROUGHOUT THE SYMPOSIUM, FROM NOON TO 5 P.M.
With family or with friends, this workshop provides an
opportunity to create one's own masterpiece and to
find inspiration in the work of artists while exploring the
multiple possibilities of the creative art. The completed
pieces will be exhibited in the Arena during the month
of August. * Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

RALLY-QUESTIONNAIRE

This game is designed for children aged 6 to 15.
It allows them to uncover the mysteries of art, to
sharpen their senses and to participate in a draw
at the conclusion of the Symposium.

INSPIRING ENCOUNTER
THROUGHOUT THE SYMPOSIUM, FROM NOON TO 5 P.M.
This activity is designed for children aged 6 to 15.
Through this activity, they will explore the inner world
of an artist and create a piece that relates to the work
of the artist.

Underlining the presence in Baie-Saint-Paul of world-renown graffiti artist Derek Mehaffey
aka OTHER, artists from Galerie Morgan Bridge have been invited to work, in collusion with him,
on an exterior mural off the Arena parking lot. The public is invited to witness the creation
of a collective artistic undertaking and to immerse in the aesthetics of graffiti. This colourful
day will unfold to the beat of DJ Kain McLean.

SYLVIE LACERTE
MEDIATION OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Sylvie Lacerte will begin her lecture by explaining her
motivations, some ten years ago, for undertaking a thorough
exploration project on the historical, sociological and aesthetic
aspects of difficulties that arise when one wishes to give
access to novice viewers to the sense of contemporary art.

Author of La médiation de l’art contemporain (2007), Sylvie
Lacerte holds a Ph.D. in art studies and practices (UQÀM).
She is also an art and museum historian, a researcher and
an independent curator.

THE ROLE OF THE ARTIST IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY
What is the purpose of art? What purpose do artists have?
Do they play a specific role in our society, these creators who
are probably the freest citizens in our democracy? Marc Mayer
will share his reflections on these questions. He will also
invite the public to take part in a discussion on these
important questions.

Marc Mayer is director of the Musée d’art contemporain
de Montréal. Author and curator.

CULTURE, A DRIVING FORCE FOR DEVELOPMENT
Isabelle Hudon will speak of the driving force of culture
in the economic development of a city such as Montréal. She will
also stress the important role of culture in the city's renown,
in the attraction of talents as well as in contributing to the
business community's mobilization and involvement.

Isabelle Hudon is president and CEO of the Board of Trade
of Metropolitan where she began working in 2002.

This activity is organized in collaboration with the Chambre
de commerce de Charlevoix.
